There are landmines in the world of Jiu-Jitsu. Think of it as a way for us oldies giving you your fair share of warning signs to avoid in your Jiu-JItsu journey. You may choose to believe, or follow. But nevertheless, it’s your career. Your professors and coahes are here to guide you.
Landmines are things that can disable us from fulfilling our goals in Jiu-Jitsu. It may render us helpless, or keep us from improving our game
Landmine #1: Overtraining
I cannot stress how important it is to do things in moderation. Overtraining can cause injuries. If you are just starting out in BJJ, make sure that you are taking things slowly. You do not want to put too much stress on your body. Eventually your body will be able to adapt to different training levels. Be patient, for Jiu-jitsu’s sake.
Landmine #2: School jumping
Although I did stress that it would be great to know and cross-train with other schools and make friends, but moving from one school to another? Seriously? If you see yourself moving from one school to another and not making any progress, then you got a problem.
Landmine #3: Refusing feedback from a team mate
Although our team mates do not have authority over us, keeping an open mind during training can help us become successful. Remember, there are things our training partners see that coaches do not see. all types of feedback is helpful. Learn from all of those
Landmine #4: Keeping an unhealthy lifestyle
Training is useless if your lifestyle won #8217;t change. The reason that you got into BJJ is to become healthy right? Sweating it out in the mats is naught if not accompanied by a good lifestyle. Do you still smoke? Stay up too late? Not good for the body
Landmine #5: Not joining enough tournaments
You can never tell how sharp the sword is until you strike something with it.
These are but a few landmines that Jiu-Jitsu artists can overcome. Now that you know these landmines exists, you can now avoid them =)
